Salt Free Cajun Seasoning Recipe

Our household loves cajun food! This salt free cajun seasoning recipe is one we use regularly to flavor all kinds of food.

Of course, many of the savory, flavorful, and spicy cajun food recipes call for cajun or creole seasoning.

Although there are some delicious brands available in your grocery store like Slap Ya Mama or Tony Cachere’s you will find the main ingredient of most of the commercial cajun seasonings is, not surprisingly, salt.

You’ll quickly discover that if you use enough of these blends to give your cajun recipes the right amount of flavor they can cause your dish to become way too salty. This was an issue that used to plague me when I was cooking some of our favorites.

I have no explanation for why it took me so long to realize that I could make my own homemade salt free cajun seasoning. However, once that epiphany hit me I started mixing up my own spice blend for cajun recipes and have never looked back!

We use this salt free cajun spice blend in our remoulade sauce as well as in gumbo and jambalaya…I love it sprinkled in my okra, tomato and corn recipe. You can use it as a magic ingredient in any dish that needs a little kick of spice. Sometimes I pixie dust it on my purple hull peas instead of pepper sauce as a last little lagniappe.

I even sprinkle it on top of deviled eggs instead of plain paprika. If you add a little extra cayenne you can use it as a spice when you make blackened fish.

Basically, you can use cajun seasoning on just about anything that needs a little kick.
