Best Snacks at Buc-ee’s for a Texas Road Trip
Hey y’all, this is Emily. My husband and I recently took a road trip to Texas and, of course, we had to make a stop at Buc-ee’s. I mean, is it really a road trip in Texas if you don’t stop at Buc-ee’s? I wanted to try some of their famous food and answer the burning question – just what are the best snacks at Buc-ee’s?

What is Buc-ee’s and Why is it SUCH a Big Deal?
Buc-ee’s is a gas station. A gas station with a cute little beaver as their mascot…
…and so much more.
It is a combination gas station and huge convenience store.
Buc-ee’s is famous for their food items and snacks most of which are Buc-ee’s own creations. They are known for their barbecue, their baked goods, and their beef jerky. They are known for canned goods like jams and pickled items like quail eggs. They have every type of soda you might imagine and a plethora of fruit snacks…and MANY other things!
In my opinion Buc-ee’s basically has the best snacks and road trip food of any gas station in the world.
Although Buc-ees sells plenty of food items, including fresh food items, they don’t provide a place for the customers to eat them. You will see people picking up their food and sitting in their cars to devour their delicious Buc-ee’s snacks and lunches.
This gas station is unusual among road side stops in that they don’t allow trucks. This makes it super easy for smaller vehicles to make pit stop here without feeling like they are going to be run over by a huge truck.
Speaking of pit stops, Buc ee’s is known for having the cleanest bathrooms around so of course I had to check it out while we were there. Yep, the Buc-ee’s bathrooms were seriously spotless.
Buc-ee’s started in Texas but they are now expanding to other states. If you are ever near one you really have GOT to stop by. You will be impressed not only by the size of the place but also with the quality of their food and snacks.

Beaver Nuggets
Beaver nuggets are a packaged Buc-ee’s creation and the number one snack from Buc ee’s. These are delightful little morsels that are both puffy and crunchy. The texture is similar to that of a cheese puff but they are sweet and caramel-y instead of savory.
Buc-ee’s Nug-ees
Buc-ee’s Nug-ees were invented after the Beaver Nuggets became so popular. They provide a savory alternative. They are the same texture as the Beaver Nuggets but have spicy and cheesy flavors.
Buc-ee’s Jerky
There are so many varieties and flavors of jerky at Buc-ee’s. It is seriously overwhelming! I suggest trying the traditional peppered jerky in either turkey or beef. That’s what we tasted and it was VERY good. However, I’ve heard that the Bohemian Garlic flavor is the top seller.
Buc-ee’s Fudge
There are approximately 24 different kinds of fudge at Buc-ee’s and you can even try a free sample if you aren’t sure what kind you want. But I suggest that you get the chocolate peanut butter. It was delicious!
Breakfast Tacos
Buc-ee’s is known for their freshly made breakfast tacos. They have a few different varieties but you can’t go wrong with a sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast taco. You can even choose a breakfast taco with brisket or potato. This is the perfect thing to have on an early morning road trip.
Barbecue
Let’s talk about the Barbecue. I know, I know…this is Texas so maybe I shouldn’t have been SO surprised at just how good the barbecue was at Buc-ee’s. Y’all. Seriously. The barbecue was one of the best things that we tried. The brisket is tender and smoky. It makes a simple but delicious sandwich. Hint: if you aren’t a barbecue person try the pastrami rueben! Yum!
Homemade Potato Chips aka Beaver Chips
When you pick up your barbecue brisket sandwich or your pastrami rueben you definitely need to add some homemade potato chips as your side item. They fry them right in the stores! I’ve heard that they put them out first thing in the morning so they are fresher earlier in the day. We were there for an early lunch and they were still yummy!
Cinnamon Roll
The cinnamon roll that we tried at Buc-ee’s was heavenly. Now, I will admit that I am not hard to please when it comes to cinnamon rolls, but this was definitely a good one. The cream cheese frosting was delicious and the proportions of frosting to bread to cinnamon was perfection.
Banana Pudding
This was one of the few Buc-ee’s food items that neither of us cared for. I can’t explain exactly what it was about it that we didn’t like. Maybe it is because my grandmother was famous for her banana pudding and she passed her recipe on to my dad who makes banana pudding for family events. This is the only thing that didn’t quite hit home for us.
Gummies and more gummies
I have never in my life seen a more impressive election of gummy candies. Like never ever. Sour gummy candies, peach rings, gummy bears, watermelon flavor gummies, orange cream gummies…the list goes on and on. I happen to be a fan of anything sour myself!
Sodas and Pure Cane Icees
Oh my word. There are so many different fountain sodas at Buc-ee’s! The drink dispenser at Buc-ee’s is basically the king of all roadside soda fountain dispensers.
Roasted Nuts
If you walk into a Buc-ee’s while they are roasting their pecans you won’t be able to resist walking out without a bag o’ nuts. They roast their own pecans, peanuts, and almonds. Unfortunately they weren’t roasting at the time we were there and ours were a little stale, however they still had a great flavor and I would definitely try them again when I knew they were fresh.
